Authors: Hiroaki Yamaguchi and Hideki Koike

Abstract: This paper proposes a method for real-time tracking of flying objects and image projection onto them for developing a particle-based volumetric 3D display. First the concept of the particle-based volumetric 3D display, which uses high-speed cameras and projectors is described. After the latency issue in such projector-camera system is pointed out, our solution to use a prediction model with kinematic laws and a Kalman Filter is presented. We conducted experiments that show the accuracy of the projection. We also present an application of our method in entertainment, Digital Juggling.
